Rhea Crane joins Sturgis City Council

(MCTH-Doreen Creed) – Rhea Crane, chief deputy Meade County Director of Equalization, was appointed by members of the Sturgis City Council to the unexpired term of Adam Martin. Martin resigned 14 months into the three-year term. He is moving to Rapid City.

Crane will be one of two Ward 4 council members.

Four residents put in for the position. The other three have all held elected office: Tim Potts, who held this seat for years; former council woman, Bernadette Usera; and former Meade School Board Member Chad Lagner.

Crane, a Faith native, is married to Sturgis teacher and former basketball coach, Mike Friedel. She has two adult children and two grandchildren. Connor a junior, is an athletic standout at Sturgis Brown High School.

She sought political office two years ago, but lost in the Republican primary for the Meade County Register of Deeds to Lana Speed Anderson.

She will be the lone female on the eight-member council.
