Visitor Itinerary: City Bike Path

The weather is beautiful and what better way to enjoy it than touring Sturgis by bike or foot! With over 10 miles of paved bike path interconnected with city sidewalks it’s time to slow down and relax. You can access the path at many points throughout the city but a great place to start would be either McDonald’s or Burger King; when you finish you can stop in and enjoy an ice cream or other treat!

As you head west from McDonald’s/Burger King, you will go along the path as it follows the creek bed and wanders below the “Sturgis” sign on the hill. The path will lead you through the city park where you can enjoy the music of children laughing as they play, or maybe you’ll catch a football or soccer game in progress as you pass by. The bike path continues east where you can pay tribute to our veterans at the Freedom Memorial. Resume your trek as the path crosses the gently flowing creek several and eventually leading you past the veterans’ hospital (VA Black Hills Health Care Systems) and Sturgis Brown High School.

Journey south following Junction Avenue where you travel by legendary Main Street, historic businesses and homes – including Poker Alice’s. As you make your way to Ballpark Road and reconnect with the bike path, choose one of two directions. One choice roams by Deadman Creek (dry most of the year), through residential areas and the Jackpine Gypsies motorcycle track as it circles back to your starting point. The other passage will take you by Sturgis Elementary School, baseball/softball fields, and fairgrounds as you journey to Main Street.
