It's already the middle of July!
In Sturgis especially, it always feels like July is the end of summer because we are all so busy with Rally and school preparations in August. However, mid-July is really only the half-way point! This being the case, we decided that we still have plenty of time to welcome a brand new face to the Chamber team this summer. Matea Gordon, daughter of one of our members, Bruce Gordon - Edward Jones, will be spending some time with us and working on a few special projects!
In light of our new recruit, I want to take a minute to express how thankful we all are for all of our volunteers. As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on volunteers in addition to our regular staff to help us put on special events and offer services to members. Events like our Ag Fest, the Community Appreciation Picnic, and the Haunted House would not be possible without you!
Our members are often looking for volunteers as well. For example, the new Sturgis Car Museum is looking for a few helpers this month. United Way of the Black Hills is recruiting volunteer teams for their Month of Caring volunteer campaign starting in September. Fort Meade Cavalry Museum is relying only on volunteer workers this summer. Finally, the Meade County Senior Citizens Center is working on some painting and minor renovations and would love some help as well! These are just a few quick options, but you are welcome to call, email, or stop by our office anytime for more opportunities and contact info.
I hope you take some time to consider volunteering this summer. Donating your time and energy is one of the best gifts you can give to a nonprofit - not to mention, it is a highly rewarding and educational experience! THANK YOU to Matea and all of the other A+ volunteers out there!
Sincerely,
Veronica Grosek
