The Sturgis Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau holds two Legislative Crackerbarrel events each year - one at the beginning of the legislative session in February, and one near the end in March. District 29 legislators are invited to a public forum on legislative topics important to the residents and businesses of Sturgis. Crackerbarrel attendees are encouraged to bring their own questions about specific topics and bills for a group discussion with the legislators. This is also an opportunity for the public to voice an opinion on how each legislator should vote and support or contest bills.
Information about our legislators and the current legislative session can be found in one comprehensive location at SDLegislature.gov. Sturgis is located in District 29, the home of Representative Terri Jorgenson, Representative Kathy Rice, and Senator John Carley.
Crackerbarrel Q&A topics are comprised of economic, social, health, safety, judicial, and other community and state issues scheduled for review during the legislative session by the Legislative Research Council. Legislators from districts across the state engage in thoughtful discussion and decision-making on current House and Senate Bills sponsored by their fellow legislators in committees and on the floor.
