Home is Where the Heart Is

What a beautiful autumn day!

I just had the opportunity today to welcome a brand new family to Sturgis, moving here from out of state. It’s easy to forget in the hustle and bustle of everyday life how good we have it in Sturgis, but then someone will stop by the Chamber and remind me of the wonderful benefits of the region and community we call home!

First, let’s take a moment to reflect on the incredible growth our outdoor recreation opportunities have seen in the past few years. We are opening up new trails one after another, most recently welcoming the Watershed/Sturgis Reservoir trails and Deadman Pass/Canyon trails to the ever-growing list that already includes the Centennial Trail, 7th Cavalry Trail System, and more! We are always thankful to live within a few minutes of the beautiful and unique Bear Butte State Park, as well as its neighbor, Bear Butte Lake for canoeing, fishing, kayaking, picnicking, camping, or just observing nature.

Additionally, we have an incredibly vibrant business community that is absolutely exploding this year. We recently welcomed new ventures including The Hotel Sturgis, White Canvas Art Company, Heartland Homestore, Northern Hills Gymnastics, The Farmhouse Barn… the list goes on! Not to mention, we have a brand new family restaurant downtown getting rave reviews! The local shopping, dining, and accommodations really showcase our love for the Sturgis community.

Finally, let me remind us all of the robust nonprofit sector thriving in and around Sturgis. The opportunities to be involved are endless – whether you prefer the fine arts, health and wellness, education, sports and outdoor recreation, local history, or a completely different mission, we have an organization that suits your needs and interests. Make a point this month to volunteer or donate to show these nonprofits how much you care and appreciate them.

From all of us here at the Chamber: Thank you, new residents, for deciding to make Sturgis your home and supporting our beautiful city!

Sincerely,
