Hello! My name is Alexis Heredia. I am writing this blog to tell you a little bit about who I am.
Unlike most of you, I am new to Sturgis, SD. I moved here almost two years ago from Colorado. I have two small children and have been a stay-at-home mother for quite some time now. My family decided to move to the Black Hills of South Dakota in hopes of finding new and more opportunities. A few weeks ago, I reached out the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce in seek of possible opportunities of employment. I had been struggling to find a profession that I loved and wanted to pursue. I wanted to be able to combine my passions, engage with the community, and find a job that worked well with my schedule.
Recently, the Chamber of Commerce reached back out to me after receiving my email insinuating that I was interested in working with the Chamber. I have been wanting to work with the community and believed I would be an asset to the Chamber team. I received a reply from Executive Director, Veronica Grosek. She was willing to meet me in person to discuss possible employment opportunities and find out what I was seeking. I went to the Chamber and met with her along with some other friendly faces, and was asked to come back for an interview. After a series of interviews, I was officially offered the position of Membership Coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce. It was then when I reviewed the job description that I knew this was the job for me. It was almost as if it was meant for me. Everything had happened in the perfect time. Everything had happened for a reason.
As I am writing this blog, I am officially on day four of my new job. I can honestly say I could not be happier with this position. The members at the Chamber of Commerce directed me to exactly what I was looking for. I am so excited to be able to engage with the community, build relationships, and help so many people and businesses. My goal is to gain an understanding of each and every business and what they are looking to achieve. I am optimistic and am anticipating sharing ideas, helping individuals grow their businesses, increase outreach, and focus on drawing more attention to businesses. The ability to watch companies’ success blossom is rewarding to me.
I am excited for the future of building and excelling in my career and I am very thankful I was awarded this opportunity. I can genuinely say I LOVE MY JOB. Stay tuned for what is to come.
