Spring Fever in Sturgis!

February is right around the corner already! I don’t know about you, but I always feel some extremely premature anticipation of spring once February rolls around. This being the case yet again, here are some of my favorite activities to prepare for the onset of spring next month:

  • Start making a gardening game plan! Yes, we’re only one month from spring and three months from the gardening ‘safe date’ in May – that means it’s time to pick out new seeds, peruse gardening supplies, and map out new landscaping or gardens for the year! Visit Rockingtree or ACE Hardware to get a jump start on gardening season.
  • Take inventory of camping supplies and scope out a couple getaways! I definitely start feeling the itch to get outdoors about this time every year – what a great time to take inventory of camping supplies, air out sleeping bags and tents, and map out some new trails or campgrounds to explore in 2020! Planning this early lets you save up for any purchases of new equipment you may need by camping season.
  • Browse vacation locations! Not an outdoors lover? February is also a great month to research options for a 2020 vacation! Many of us are notorious for never taking vacation days – resolve to use them and enjoy a stay-cation, international adventure, or extended weekend trip this year. I recommend visiting with a local travel planner, or browsing locations on Instagram or Pinterest to get some new ideas!
  • Embrace winter while it lasts! ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’ – which means that if you’re longing for spring, the best thing to do is embrace winter to make the intervening time fly by! Check out Kiara’s blog for some Black Hills winter activity ideas!
  • Make a “Vision Board” – I usually do this in January at the start of the new year, but there’s no reason it can’t be done in February instead! Find a large piece of poster board or a bulletin board, clip out images or words that capture your goals for 2020, and collage away! I hang my vision board somewhere I will see it every day to remind me of my vision for the year.

There you have it – five recommendations for making the winter-to-spring transition a little more enjoyable. I hope you have a wonderful first week of February, and as always, please stop by to say ‘hello’ anytime!

Sincerely,
