About Crisis Intervention Shelter Service

CISS is a nonprofit corporation established in Meade County in 1991. Our primary purpose is to assist, shelter, and support victims of domestic and sexual violence.

We believe that no one wants to be beaten or deserves to be abused and that no one should have to fear or endure abuse. All people have the right and the responsibility to help make decisions that affect them and to decide for themselves what changes to make in their lives. In order to make free choices; people need to be free from violence, actual or threatened.

We try to help those involved in family violence to discover their personal responsibilities and choices. Our goal is to support each woman in her choices, whether she moves to independent living or decides to work on the problem within her family.

We believe violence is rooted in our social, sexual, religious, economical, political and educational systems. All forms of oppression, prejudice, and inequality contribute to it. We believe that we must work to eliminate violence within our culture and ourselves.
