Danika’s Take on Community Involvement

Each and every one of us has a community that we call home. There are many reasons why you should get involved with your community, but today I’m going to share with you my top 5 reasons on why you should get involved in your local community.

  1. Meeting new people: By getting involved in your community, you will have the opportunity to meet many new people that you may not ever get the chance to meet. This is especially important if you are new to a community. You will be able to meet people that are involved just like you, and you will make connections with the other families and businessmen in the community that are not in your normal circle. And, even if you are not new to the community, it is always nice to meet the new people or a younger generation of the citizens in the community you call home.
  2. Expanding your horizons: Involvement in your community will provide you with the opportunity to expand your horizons. You will have the opportunity to experience different events and it will open you up to new ideas and opinions. You must have the courage to leave your comfort zone and try new things.
  3. Learning effective communication skills: You will work with a wide range of people and personalities in your community. And, you will learn to communicate with each of these personalities. Having good verbal skills is important to deliver and understand information accurately. Having effective communication skills will make you a valued person in your community.
  4. Finding your passion: Being involved in your community will allow you to try out different things and may lead to you finding out what you truly care about. It may be working at your local animal shelter or volunteering at the nursing home or anything in between, but you will find an organization that you are passionate about and want to help them.  In the end, it can be very rewarding to get involved with your community.
  5. Discovering yourself:  Finding yourself is a significant part of living a fulfilling life. Through community involvement, you can develop a thorough knowledge of yourself. Being involved in your community will shine a light on your strengths and weaknesses.

Community involvement provides many opportunities to you and the place you call home. Serving others can show you how to truly make a difference in the world and it brings positive impacts to a place that you care so much about.
