Hello again, Sturgis!
For the last three weeks, we have been playing a Q&A game to help our visitors and members get to know our staff a little better! We asked the same four questions of each other, and here are our answers:
1. What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
- "Artistic, Open-minded, Adaptable" - Kiara Poitra
- "Creative, Introspective, Hobbyist!" - Veronica Grosek
- "Approachable, Helpful, Funny" - Kat Mayberry
2. What is your favorite book?
- "The Green Mile by Stephen King" - Kat Mayberry
- "I LOVE to read books! My favorite recent read was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It really makes you think about the direction of your life and your happiness, and I am pleased to report that I am very happy with my career choice as Director of the Sturgis Chamber – you all make this job so wonderful every day!" - Veronica Grosek
- "Honestly, I have not read a good book since high school! But I would say that my favorite book is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs." - Kiara Poitra
3. What is your favorite thing about the Sturgis community?
- "Growing up in Sturgis and now coming back to work here, I have always been amazed by our hometown’s loyalty to each other. Businesses, neighbors, and even visitors with a love of Sturgis will stick up for each other no matter what! I am a Scooper for life!" - Veronica Grosek
- "Sturgis is a tight-knit community, it’s friendly, and has a relaxed atmosphere. Sturgis is very accepting of personal choices and someone’s way of life. I love that the entire area of the Black Hills is steeped in history! My favorite thing is listening to stories from folks that have spent their whole lives here." - Kat Mayberry
- "After living in Sturgis for about 2 years, I would say that my favorite thing about the Sturgis community is the businesses. There are so many friendly business owners here in town!" - Kiara Poitra
4. What is an interesting fact about yourself?
- "From 1984-1989 I had worked in an accounting position with AAFES (Army, Air Force Exchange Service) and had relocated to Germany. It was an amazing experience to see Europe and travel all around the U.K. I can’t wait to go back someday!" - Kat Mayberry
- "I am an artist, and love to paint and do many different mediums of artwork! I have not made it into a career yet but would love to. I have done some commissions and sold some art and I will say that it is an amazing feeling when someone is in love with one of the pieces I do!" - Kiara Poitra
- "I ran a few ideas by the other ladies in the office, and they decided I needed to share all of them! Here goes: 1) I played bass in a Rage Against the Machine cover band for years; 2) I have a secret Instagram account where I artistically convert photos of my cat, Ella Fitzgerald, into monsters; 3) My karaoke go-to is “Fight For Your Right” by the Beastie Boys, and 4) I lived and worked in Japan for one year in 2013!" - Veronica Grosek
We are so thankful to have such a diverse, fun staff! Come on down to the Chamber to meet each of us and learn more about what we do as a Chamber and Visitors Bureau.
Sincerely,
Chamber Staff
