What to do in Sturgis in the Winter?

February is one of those “in-between” months up here in Sturgis. Is it still winter, or a false spring? I have no idea, because it changes every other day. The Black Hills may seem to be in a season of sleepiness, but you’d be surprised with how much there is still to do.

On these nicer, more warm days, you can hike through the hundreds of miles of trails directly around Sturgis. If it’s snowing, you can try out snowshoeing instead on those same trails. Fort Meade is also available to play catch at the softball fields or explore the historical plaques around their walking paths. Not interested in stretching your legs? You can also cruise through both Vanocker Canyon and Boulder Canyon. Spot the sun peeking through the trees and the forest critters scurrying across their branches.

Did you know that the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is open year-round? They’ve recently updated parts of their exhibit with some unique bits of history from the motorcycle industry. Check out their website or socials for hours and then stroll through their halls of racing champions, historical bike models, and exclusive memorabilia.

Many of the venues around Sturgis keep the community occupied through the colder seasons with plenty of entertainment:

  • The Loud American hosts alternating Mario Kart tournaments and open mic nights every Wednesday through the winter.
  • The Knuckle Saloon is home to bull riding in the spring and fall, as well as bingo for local charities on Wednesday nights.
  • The Sturgis Veterans’ Club stays busy each week with a mix of live music evenings, karaoke on Sundays, and Saturday afternoon bingo.
  • Sturgis Brewing Company isn’t just for giant pretzels and funky beer flavors; they also host trivia on Tuesdays and sometimes themed bingo.
  • Belle Joli’ Winery hosts events for both the public and their wine club with fun activities like bingo and sip-n-paint classes.
  • The 44 Lounge & Casino is no stranger to live music, hosting musicians nearly every Friday AND Saturday evening. Enjoy a soft acoustic set or a catchy blues duo.
  • Kickstands Sturgis also keeps your weekends entertaining throughout the year with music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Don’t forget to sprinkle in Thursday night open mic jams and the line dancing classes.
  • BrewBerry Bistro may be more your speed with their cozy ambiance and fresh espresso. They host an indoor farmer’s market as well as sip-n-paint classes.
  • The I-Bar, attached to Iron Horse Inn, hosts bingo every Sunday afternoon through the winter as well as comedy nights.

As we move closer to actual warm weather (and not South Dakota’s psych-outs), many of our area’s attractions will begin to open back up. We would love to keep a running list of opening dates from our local businesses to share with the community. Please send us your opening details like dates, hours of operation, and other important information at the button below. Until then, you can keep enjoying this beautiful area with plenty of activities to do year-round.
